My name is Tim Woda. I am a dad, an entrepreneur and an Internet & Mobile Safety Advocate.
Despite our best efforts as parents, we often don’t know enough about our kids’ “digital lives”. All too often this leads to children experimenting with “sexting”, falling victim to cyberbullying or even child predators. Like many of you, I have heard too many stories of the world’s most detestable people using technology to gain access to our children.
As a member of buySAFE’s executive team, I had worked for years to protect consumers from poor online shopping experiences. But when one of my own children became the target of an Internet child predator last year, it was a wake up call. While my child was not harmed, it forced me and my family to think about ways to prevent the new technologies kids use—such as social networking and text messages—from opening doors to such risks.
I started on an endeavor to develop the world’s first Parental Intelligence System that would help parents keep their social and mobile kids safe while promoting healthy online habits. I was joined by my brother Steve, founder of buySAFE, and a talented team of technologists. KidSafe was born. KidSafe gives parents a way to “have our child’s back” without being overbearing or constantly looking over their shoulder. I also raise awareness of these issues by volunteering at schools, churches and other community organizations to deliver innovative educational workshops designed for parents. A frequent public speaker and an expert on Internet & mobile phone safety issues impacting children, I informally serve as KidSafe’s “Chief Child Safety Advocate”.
Prior to KidSafe, I was the Vice President of Business Development & Sales for buySAFE, Inc., the world’s leading e-commerce trust and safety company now partially owned by Verisign. I initially joined buySAFE when the company launched in 2003 and prior to assuming revenue responsibility as VP, I served as buySAFE’s Director of Business Development and Director of Community Development.
Before buySAFE I founded The Telecom Recruiter, LLC, an executive search firm serving the telecommunications industry. I also held the position of Southeast Area Director for MCI Communications where I managed several district sales and service teams and was inducted into the MCI Small Business Hall of Fame.
